The results of the research published by the Conference Board showed that by the end of March leading economic index (LEI) for Spain fell by 2.0 percent and amounted to 98.7 points (2016=100). We will remind, the index recorded a zero change in February and a decline of 0.4 percent in January. Within six months (from September 2019 to March 2020) dropped 2.4 percent after declining 0.3 percent over the previous six-month period (from August 2019 to February 2020).
We will remind, the leading economic index is a weighted average indicator, which is calculated on the basis of a number of macroeconomic indicators. The index characterizes the development of the economy over the next 6 months. There is also a rule of thumb that the output values of the indicator in negative territory for three consecutive months is an indicator of the slowdown of the economy.
Meanwhile, the coincident economic indicator (CEI) fell 1.8 percent in March, and amounted to 101,8 points (2016 = 100), which followed a decline of 0.9 percent in February and falling by 1.0 percent in January. For the six-month period (to March) index fell 4.7 percent after falling 2.8 percent over the previous six-month period (from August 2019 to February 2020).
